Following these pre-operative instructions will help reduce your risk of complications and optimize your results.
Medications to Avoid: Stop taking blood-thinning medications or supplements (including aspirin, NSAIDs, and certain herbal products) at least 7–10 days before surgery. You’ll be given a list of what to avoid.
Prescription Adjustments: If you’re on blood thinners or diabetes medications like Metformin, Dr. Allen may coordinate with your prescribing doctor or anesthesia provider to safely adjust your regimen.
Stay Healthy: Eat well, hydrate, and limit tobacco and alcohol. Continue using prescribed allergy medications or immunotherapy as advised.
Fasting: Stop eating or drinking at midnight the night before surgery (unless told otherwise by anesthesia).
Pre-Op Clearance: Patients over 50 or with existing conditions may need clearance from a primary care doctor, cardiologist, or pulmonologist before surgery.
Arrival & Check-In: Arrive early to check in, meet with the care team, and change into a gown.
Anesthesia: You’ll receive general anesthesia or sedation based on your procedure and health history.
Reminders: Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Remove contacts, piercings, and makeup. Bring a list of your current medications. Make sure you have someone to drive you home and help you for at least 24 hours post-op.
Healing well is just as important as the procedure itself. These tips will help ensure your recovery is safe and effective.
